Super Bowl

As some of you may know, I'm not much of a sports fan. So when I watch some major event for the commercials, who do I root for? Well, if a local team is in it, they get my support. Of course, the Lions somehow managed to exclude themselves from the contest this year.

It took me about five minutes into the game to start rooting for Tampa Bay. Oakland's Raiders were embarrassingly bad. They didn't deserve to win, so I couldn't see myself supporting them. It was amusing enough to see brief flashes of competence in the fourth quarter, but by then it was far too late.

I watched the game at Mike's house. I didn't realize that he had a high-def television, but I noticed that huge monster pretty quickly. It's amazing the difference between HD and SD when you see it. ABC is still apparently in the middle of a switch, because while most of the actual game play was filmed with HD cameras, much of the interviews and auxiliary footage was shot with SD. The switching was painfully obvious.

I didn't catch the pre-game show, so I didn't see how Penn and Teller set up their trick. Did they actually show the prediction going into the pickle jar, or did they come with it sealed? It's pretty obvious how they did it. Did anyone else wonder about why they made the guy smash open the pickle jar on some weird box thing? Once the jar was smashed, it's pretty easy to do an injection of the metal tube into the mess, and then game over. That even explains the pickles. The brine's opaque, so you wouldn't be able to see inside the jar until the end. Perfect.
