Granholm files amicus brief
Michigan Daily: Granholm brief argues colleges have discretion to shape policies
An article I read over lunch at Hillel. I was in shock when I read this. Essentially, Granholm argues that under state law, U of M has the right to do whatever it wants in its admissions process.
I find that argument so disingenuous as to be unbelievable. Does Granholm really believe that state law (or at least her interpretation of it) trumps every relevant federal law that applies to a public university's policies? If not, then this statement is irrelevant to the case, and if so, she's woefully ignorant of the basic makeup of our federal system. An argument, sure, but a terrible one.
