THE BEST DAY - April 6, 2005!!!
Well, I just had to share this day with everyone! It was so great! The weather definately had something to do with it (a gorgeous 77 degree sunny day out)!
Anyhoo, I had a little trouble waking up this morning cuz I stayed up again working on my paper (10 pages done - 1/3!), but I got to work.. looking kinda cute today :). Some of what I want to tell you is slightly confidential so I'll keep it as vague as I can...
Oh and did I mention I've been practicing my guitar? (I wanna be like Avi so I've been working on it in my head too) HAHA... I already know 10 chords and it's only been 3 days or so... It's addictive! I practice the chords in my car while I'm driving... haha - Maybe Avi will be impressed... Maybe he can teach me what he knows!
Random additional impressive thought - my mom's good friend's son (got it?), who went to school with Shira, won the Pulitzer. Yes, the Pulitzer. He's a journalist and mighty smart. Comes from good stock, as they say. Charlie Ornstein... I had just been thinking about him since he had a bday on April 1. His dad just got appointed judge. WoW. I wanna do that. It is possible. And Debbie is just fabulous!!! I gotta call her and hang out with her. I always knew brains and hard work ran in that fam. How proud they all must be! (It's the water - lol)
BUT - back to my fam. :)
Regardless, I get to work at the Federal Courthouse and there's an inter-office envelope on my desk. Inside is an order given by my judge. What was so impressive was that it was for a case that I assisted him on (and he agreed with my opinion on it!!!!!!) - a case of first impression. WHOO HOO! I worked so hard on it, and it's SUCH a good feeling to know you did a great job. Even the clerk I work for/with seemed impressed. Heehee.
So that put me on a cloud. Cloud Nine to be exact. Well anyway, I got to leave work early (around 4pm) so I got to enjoy the FABULOUS weather. I met my good friend Jamie and we walked around Royal Oak together in the sunshine. Went into a couple really cool shops - there are times I wish I were a lawyer already with the paycheck that goes along with it. Ah well. One more year. Who asked me how it felt to know that this time next year I'll be one month from being a lawyer? Was it mom? WOW. Heehee. How exciting. How nerveracking. How exhilerating.
Anyway, we eventually met up with my family b/c we were having a family birthday dinner for me. :D My mom and family believe in extending birthdays as long as humanly possible (it is SO worth it), and tonight we all had dinner together. When everyone showed up, I was confused b/c I was still waiting on Avi. Then I remembered he moved to NY. :(
I'm sure he was there in spirit though... But he's coming to Detroit for two days this Monday!!! I'm so excited!!! WHOO HOO! I'm hoping to see him or something, but I need to let him know that, eh? haha... He's also coming home for the two seders - WHOO HOO!!!! :D heehee..
WHOO HOO!! I love Avi. :)
Anyhoo, back to dinner... So it was almost everyone and Jamie. The food was yummy, and I love my family so much. I'm so lucky. Well, they finally gave me my birthday card. It was SOOO cute and SOOO sweet. Ari picked it out; haha. I was expecting something a little.. hmm.. more risque? But I'm glad it wasn't - he probably felt bad for me b/c I think I'm having a little difficulty with this birthday. I feel older this time... :( Ez was kind enough to reassure me though. 27 is not old. G-d bless him. Now I just have to get it into my head.
Whatever. Then I got to open my presents. I love presents. I opened Shira's first cuz she asked me to (saying it wasn't as cool as Mom and Abba's)... It was a sushi set and book!!!! She's a great listener - well, I kinda jammed it into her head. But hey, she still got it for me. haha. How could she possibly think it was not as cool a present?! She must have been teasing me... :D
Then I got to open Mom and Abba's present. Now, I already knew what it was b/c Mom had taken me shopping for them yesterday, but who cares. A present is a present. :) I open the shoebox and there's my golf shoes! :D YAHOO! They are so cute.. Well, Abba didn't think so; he made his face... it was so funny. I knew and said it was b/c they didn't look like golf shoes. LOL. I should take him to the golf range one of these times. Or maybe we'll go shooting again. Or maybe we'll do photography again... gotta do something.
My head is all over tonight. Can you tell I didn't take my meds today? HAHA. Anyway, so I had taken one shoe out to show everyone and Shira says (or was it Mom?) to take the other shoe out and show it. I was confused b/c the shoes look the same, whether right or left, but I took it out anyway and showed it... Then I think Mom said, but what else is in there? I was SO confused but again, looked anyway. Inside, camoflaged (sp?) inside with the tissue paper was a white bag ... from Tappers Jewelry (plug). ??? I wasn't expecting anything else, especially from Tappers... I opened it, and there was a box in silver wrapping paper. Inside the wrapping paper was a silver box and inside the silver box was a little silver pouch. A really delicate chain was caught on the tie, so it took a little time to untangle it. In that time, everyone kept asking what is it? But I couldn't get it undone.. and they kept asking... it was so funny. :D
I finally got it out and lifted it out. It was a little sparkly diamondy "T" on the chain - so pretty!!!! I love it! I can't believe they surprised me like that! I really was shocked. I had no idea the bag was in the shoebox. I probably woulda left it there and never seen it. haha.. good thing mom and shira told me. Mom said she thought about putting it in the toe of the shoe but she wanted to see my face. I'm willing to bet my face was priceless... :D
IT WAS GREAT. The dinner was great. My family is great. The thoughtfulness of the gifts were great. Everything was so great! I have no words for it! I love everyone so much I don't know how to say it.... sigh
Each one is so darn special. I would say why I love each one sohdarn much but I'll have to save that for a separate blog - and it's waay too late at night to start writing it now b/c (1) it'll take too long, and (2) I'll start crying b/c I'm a tired loving sap.
Needless to say - I love them so so so much. Each one. Abba. Mom. Shira. Avi. Ezra. Ari.... sigh How did I get so damn lucky? I get it... :D! My FAMILY is the present! Oh! I think I'm going to cry again...
Oh, I forgot! At dinner I told everyone about my news at the courthouse and they were all so impressed! I felt so good about myself. I helped set Michigan precedent. WOW. WOW.
WOW.
This is what I was looking for. These are the times that really reinforce my choice.... I'm so frickin' happy.... :`)
WOW.
Heehee... Well after dinner I took Jamie back to her car and then came home. But I had a package in the mail! I opened it and what's inside? A mounted wooden plaque from Who's Who of American Law School with MY name on it! It is stunning... I'm going to hang it in my study. WOW. I'm going to have to show my parents and family this... it's so mag. HA.
I told Carrie (my roomie) about my day and she told me she was so proud of me. She was also impressed with my plaque. AWWWW.... I feel so proud of myself. I'm really going to make a big difference in this world. I know it. And I just found out my girl Yaffa is in town til Tuesday so I get to see her too!!! She's going to be a lawyer also and she's making her way there - straight As so far. Go her! You know what she said? She's following in my footsteps...
I seriously think I'm going to cry... :) a happy cry.
WOW.
I think the wow-ness of the day is getting to me. Oh yea, and my best friends Sarah and Jess are coming into town the w/e of the 15th! Can life GET any better? HAHA - can't wait til Rob gets his softop for his Jeep Wrangler so we can tool around in the sunshine! Better than a convertible baby!
I only hope that my life continues to improve on today - I'm sure it will. May everything Shira wished for me come true and may everything that my family wants for me come true. :) Amein. :D I'm such a sap. I love it. Aren't I great? heehee...
WOW.
