Wishing everyone a good week!
Over the last couple day in the subways (of course not Shabbos) have been interesting and related to music. I was walking into the subway and there was a group drumming away on plastic buckets. They were so good, I bought a CD of theirs (I haven't listened to it yet). Just drumming away - very loud, but good.
Then I continued onto the train and there's a fellow on some kind of wind clarinet type instrument, turning in circles, walking up and down the aisle (even in NY this isn't quite normal) and playing an interesting tune. While playing he was also stomping his feet along with it. Kinda with a native-American style to it. He finally finished and a majority of the people on the train clapped. Then this fellow made a speech about how he was from Peru and then proceeded to collect a few dollars. It was interesting to see how people react to events like these. It's really something to see how these New Yorkers who won't look each other in the eye appreciate these impromtu performances. Hmm.
I'm liking Washington Heights. I went to the shul I tried out, the Dumbrov shul, and there again people said hello. Even people on the street wished me a good Shabbos before I got a chance to wish them the same. I like that sort of thing. It makes a difference to me.
Don't forget -- Rosh Chodesh MarCheshvan is Wednesday and Thursday... Chodesh Tov!
