Carrying on the Theme
Carrying on the theme of doctors and surgery, I'm going for an MRI tonight on my left knee. Serves me right for trying to exercise. Just joking, sort of. I started getting off the train a stop before my school stop so I could get a couple extra blocks of walking. I was even going to get off two stops before. I had also been thinking about adding an hour of basketball into the schedule too. There's a girls basketball pick up game for an hour Monday nights. So I went. This was last Monday.
It was a lot of fun. I played for about 40 minutes. I was running after a girl who was about to take a shot, and my left knee buckled and I went down. I tried to walk it off and re-join the game...and it buckled again. So I walked home. It didn't hurt, but it was uncomfortable and felt funny. I went to bed and hoped that it would feel better in the morning. Needless to say it didn't. So I hobbled to school, my knee buckled twice on the stairs in the front of the school, and I started crying out of pure frustration (it still didn't hurt).
Anyway, I made some phone calls trying to get an appointment. I got one for last Thursday morning. On the positive side, I got to sleep in till 8:30am, yeah! I had to be there by 10:15. I filled out a ton of paperwork, got x-rays, and had the doctors look at me. They were very impressed. They think that I tore my ACL and we scheduled the MRI. How exciting. This is a whole new world. I like the doctor, he explained everything patiently even when I interrupted him with my own questions. He explained the different options from no surgery to what kinds of surgery there are to choose from. They gave me a brace to hold my knee together so it won't buckle anymore. That was the biggest brocho. I still feel the knee buckle but I know that at least it's not going to come out from under me.
Since then my knee has been slowly getting better. I can now go up the stairs with both legs (rather than just dragging the left). Today I started going down the stairs with both legs, but slowly holding onto the rail. Slowly it's coming along.
Tonight is the MRI at 6:30 and the results should be back on Thursday. Then the decision making begins. G-d willing whatever has to happen will go well.
