MacBook

The MacBook is a very impressive laptop from what I see on Apple's website. Now, ever since Apple's laptop line bifurcated I've always gone with PowerBooks rather than iBooks. But what's the advantage today?

Processor: MB has 2.0, MBP can be had with a 2.16. They're both so much faster than my current 'Book that I doubt it would matter much.

Hard Drive: MB is configurable to 120G too. Plus, it's user-replaceable, a big plus.

Burner: MB and MBP both have 4x. A lot better than my current 'Book which will only take 2x media. (And I do mean that. It refuses to burn anything rated at 4x or faster. Where do you get 2x-rated media nowadays?)

Screen: Yes, the MB's is smaller. But it's about the same resolution as my current 'Book. I'd have to look at the glossy screen at the Apple Store, of course, but it can't be terrible.

Graphics: Yeah, integrated video sucks. But I don't play video games, and the 950 is still fast enough to do things like decode HD H.264 (as it does on the Intel Mini).

Expansion: Only the MBP has the ExpressCard slot. But what would I use it for? I haven't yet used my 'Book's PC Card slot now that I have a USB digital camera.

Weight: MB is lighter.

Keyboard: MB doesn't have a backlit keyboard. I know how to touch-type, though. (The keyboard is another thing that I'd have to check in person to see if I could stand it.)

Battery: Apple claims 6 hrs for the MB vs 4.5 for the MBP.

Included software: MB has Big Bang Board Games, MBP has QuickBooks for the Mac and a FileMaker trial.

So why wouldn't I just go with the MB and save myself a thousand dollars?
