Will

I was in a Learning Annex class last week about learning the piano. I didn't get much out of it past a book and the opportunity to play a bit. But I was taking it with two women, and the teacher asked us what musical background we had. I stated that I'd taught myself the guitar. The women were startled. “How did you do that?”

I shrugged, “Sheer force of will?”

I've been thinking about that answer ever since, and the more I think of it, the more profound it gets. And it really divides the world in two: those who understand how nearly everything yields before willpower, and those who can't.

Yea. I agree completely. While I'm not proficient in an instrument (though it's definately on my list of things to accomplish), I am in the process of teaching myself different languages. People ask, how are you doing that?

My response? Time, effort, and willpower.
