Fixing the SD550

During my time in Israel, the screen on my Canon PowerShot SD550 cracked. The camera still worked if I used the viewfinder, but not having a screen to compose on made life pretty difficult.

When I got home, I looked online and found that this was a common problem with the PowerShot line. But I also found some websites with do-it-yourself instructions.

Well, “do-it-yourself” depends on your skill level. But the replacement screen was about $50, so I ordered it. I've never taken apart something so fiddly and small, but after about an hour's work of trying to not crack the backlight while removing the LCD, I had it all fixed.

Yay for Canon! Well, for their parts department, anyway.
