Two Hours Later... Adventures in Subway-Land

School ended today at 3:30 (one of my early days), but we had a holiday party being held around the block at a restaurant from 3:30-6pm. I went at about 4pm and stayed till 5pm. My intention was to get back to the school and write report cards.

Things went relatively smoothly once I got back to school. Sort of. I couldn't figure out how to get into the report card program. I texted three different people. In the meantime after I got over being frustrated a tad I worked on another project which also needed to be done by tomorrow. Thankfully one of the Tech guys (wonderful people) had also wandered into school and explained to me how to get into the program.

I inputed all my report card comments - no I'm not done yet - I still have check marks to put in. Since we don't give them grades in the younger grades, we give them "satisfactory", "unsatisfactory" sort of things.

I finished my comments section at 8:16pm. I was already losing it by then. I left the school latest 8:25pm, and jumped on the 1 Train. For the sake of the story you need to know that my stop is 79th Street. We trundle along till 116th Street where we stop. There are signal problems at 215th Street and we are being held. And held. And held. At this point you're trying to figure out if it's worth your while to get out and walk, or take a train downtown to go uptown on another train. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't.

After 20-30 minutes I figure what the heck. I saw my first downtown train go by so I figured, okay at least I know that downtown is working. I got off the train, crossed to the other side, when I saw my uptown train leave. Okay. So I headed over to the uptown side again and got on the next uptown train. But we're not leaving. The conductor at least gives us some advice. She says that (obviously) the trains are moving very slowly - going one stop at a time - and we should go downtown to 59th Street and take the A express uptown.

So again, I cross over and grab the coming train. There's a few teenagers being incredibly stupid. I was frustrated enough that I was considering saying something to them (this happened twice, I hate stupid teenagers!) but I reconsidered because (1) I was outnumbered. That hasn't been an issue before. (2) There was a girl. Girls are meaner and in some instances are stupider than teenage boys. It wasn't worth it. I walked to the other end of the train car and turned up my music so I wouldn't hear them.

As we head downtown we're passing 86th Street, next being 79th Street. I then realize that I've gone nowhere in an hours time. Nowhere. Meanwhile, there are two guys singing "Santa Claus is coming to town" on the train. Very nice if I hadn't been on the train for an hour already. I wanted to cry.

At 79th, we stop for a moment with the doors open and the conductor says, "we're being held momentarily". I couldn't handle it anymore. I got off the train and took a nice long walk to 59th Street. Listened to my music, gave Talya a call. Finally got to Columbus Street Station where I took the A express home. Walked into the apartment at 10:22pm. Two hours later. Never mind that I had work to do when I got home. Whatever.

All this being said, it was on the whole a fine day. And there are bigger and better things to worry about. I love you all, and to all a good night.

Good grief! If it were me, I'd swear-off using the subway. You can't keep on schedule that way! But what's the alternative? Sue them! Yes, make them realize that we're not to be trifled with. Imagine, thousands, no -- millions of dissatisfied, disgruntled travelers, suing the transit system blind. Yes, blind!! No, better yet -- rampaging throughout the under-ground. Tearing it limb from limb. Destruction and chaos everywhere. Warfare as the Companies try to defend themselves from the riders. 'We own it, we can destroy it.' Ah, such satisfaction, ...but then, how do we get to work? Do we sit on the subway [the 'underground' for those in London and points north] waiting, just waiting? Oh well, perhaps we'll take the bus, ride in the sun -- next to throw-up ['vomit' for those in Kookamonga and points south], and just observe life as it meanders by. Yes, that sounds so much better. 'Next stop, 56th street.'

Definitely sue! Sue them blind! From pillar to post -- SUE THEM UNTIL TEARS FLOOD EACH TERMINAL!! Make them cry for mercy!!!!! By the way, have you heard that Penn Station may close if there is a strike?? I'm glad I live here. Really ! Abba

Stupider? :D It was great talking to you that night....
