First night

I just spent my first night in my new apartment.

I was unpacking my stuff, and unloaded about a quarter of the boxes. The ones for the kitchen and bathroom were easy, but the bedroom (where most of them are from anyway) are a lot harder. Unloading the closet was fine, but there are a lot of sweaters and other clothing that I just never wear that I had in the drawers. I don't want to ditch it, but I have to find some kind of storage for my loft.

I moved my Mac mini into the bedroom. The overall plan is to have the NAS and wireless out in the main room where the TV will go, but until then I have it next to the mini. What that means is that instead of two small LEDs, when the lights were turned off I had dozens of flickering ones: the NAS, the gigabit switch above it, and the wireless router on top of it.

The air conditioning—ouch. There's a sleeve in my wall, and a unit in the closet. I'd figured that the unit would fit into the sleeve, but I was mistaken. It left several inches on all sides, was very loud (a problem as it's above my bed) and didn't put out much cold air. Time for shopping.

And the bed has a headboard, which is a problem because there are two orientations that the bed could go in, and in both the headboard blocks a window. It's running north-south now, blocking one window just a little, but in that orientation there's no power on the wall behind the headboard, so I can't even put my alarm clock on a bedstand. I'm probably going to take the headboard off and rotate the bed. That'll help a bit, though I need to figure out what to do with a headboard.

Yeah Avi!
I'm so happy you've got your own place now. Part of the fun is going through your stuff and organizing it all in a way that makes sense to you. Then of course there's the decorating and stuff like that.
Enjoy. I look forward to seeing your new place.
Good Shabbos!
