iTunes Music Store

It's pretty impressive stuff. The interface is quite usable, and now that everyone's stopped hammering on it it's responsive. What about the selection? Pretty complete if you're talking modern. But what if you're feeling nostalgic?

  • The Beatles: Where are they? There's one album of them collaborating with someone else.
  • The Beach Boys: Two albums. From 2001.
  • Aerosmith. Nothing before 1997. Which is insane. Where is their debut album? Where is Toys in the Attic?
  • Aretha Franklin: Nothing before 1987.
  • Arlo Guthrie: One song on some compilation album. You might be able to get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant, but you can't get Alice's Restaurant here.

And then some artists of lesser stature:

  • Manfred Mann: One best-of album.
  • A Flock Of Seagulls. Nothing.
  • The Animals: Nothing.
  • Badfinger: Nothing.

I could go on and on; this is just from running through A and B artists. This is a good start, but the selection is still incredibly spotty.

A note: Steve didn't mention it, but album prices are capped at $9.99, no matter how many songs there are past 10.

Album prices aren't capped at $9.99 -- both albums that contain Don McLean's "American Pie" are $11.99. And "American Pie" isn't available as a single. :(
