Turning five

When upgrading the Movable Type software a few days ago, I looked around at the entries, and I realized something. The oldest entry on this blog is

Five. Years. Old.

Well, as of today, not as of a few days ago.

I haven't used Movable Type for five years, though. At first, I used a service called DiaryLand, and posted items there under the name “Avi's Journal”. After a while, I moved from longer journal-style entries to shorter blog-style entries, which corresponded to a change at DiaryLand that made that possible.

I finally switched to running Movable Type myself at the end of 2002, and I took the opportunity to move all my old entries over. I gave Shira a login to the blog, and she quickly posted a massive number of her older articles. And we've been happily running along since.

Speaking of DiaryLand, when you contributed to its operation you got some free banner ad exposure for your journal. I put together an ad, but it didn't run long before I moved to Movable Type. Exhumed for your consideration:
