CoolPix 950 battery door
My first digital camera was a QuickTake 200. I never really liked it. My second and current is a CoolPix 950. I love that thing to death. Only 2 MP, but it's solid, takes great pictures, and has a movable screen.
The one bad thing is that the battery door is held on by cheap plastic tabs. And enough finally broke off on mine that the camera stopped working.
Replacements? DigitalCameraPartsDepot has it for $59.60. Spartan Photo Center is $43.50. USCamera is $41.60. Huron Camera is $36. Some claim direct purchase from Nikon for under $30, but I don't know if that's still a valid offer.
J. Suokas has a clever fix-it-yourself involving little screws and fire. It looks easy enough to try, but I don't have appropriate screws lying around. I'll have to see what I can scavenge around town. Where would you look for something like that? A hardware store? Tekserve?

Why not just try taping it closed. I've fixed many flimsy battery doors with tape. Gaffer's tape is probably the best because it sticks until you pull it up, but you could always go with a little duct tape (which is icky sticky, but it works).

Yup, a good hardware store will have an aisle with endless boxes of various screws. Pity you don't live here anymore, I'm sure I've got screws like that lying around, plus the drills and taps to make the (threaded holes).

I fixed my 990 with broken-off tabs on the battery door by fashioning a small "tab" with a strip of beer can aluminum and crazy gluing both sides of the bottom of the "tab" to the inside. It has worked well for almost 2 years.
